URINALYSIS
Urinalysis involves laboratory examination and testing of a Urine Sample to measure its components and characteristics. Urine provides a unique source of information about your body chemistry because, many biochemical processes produce residues, that are excreted in the urine. Analysis of the excreted substances, provides an excellent way to monitor your body’s metabolic health.
The tests performed, assist in monitoring adrenal function, calcium & vitamin C levels, digestive function and bowel toxicity, acid-base levels, concentration of urine and, markers for disease processes as well as oxidation rates and need for anti-oxidants. A Urinalysis gives the clinician a good indication of metabolic responses occurring in the body. The complete urinalysis measures the following:

Preparation for Collection Urine Sample:
To obtain accurate information from your urine specimen, please follow these recommendations for 24 hours prior to catching the urine specimen:

  • Eliminate all nutritional supplements.
  • Continue with any prescription medications from your medical doctors, however, please ensure that medications are listed on the Health Record.
  • Eliminate gum and breath mints. Eliminate alcohol, coffee, tea (black & green), and pop.
  • Beets & carrots colour the urine & skew the visual observation tests.

Collecting Urine Specimens:
Please arrange to follow the above instructions and bring your urine sample to the clinic at your first appointment.

  • Use only the specimen cup provided.
  • If you have lost your cup and absolutely cannot obtain a replacement, then rinse a clean glass jar with boiling water and allow to air dry. Make sure the lid fits tightly to avoid spilling, and seal in baggie.
  • Catch only the first morning’s voiding (after 3:00 A.M.), wait until mid-stream to catch the sample.
  • Fill the specimen cup to at least ½ full. Tighten the lid of the specimen cup firmly and package, by sealing into the baggie to avoid leakage.

Transporting Urine Specimens:
Do not allow the urine to sit at room temperature. Refrigerate until time to go to the clinic.
